Music is the best thing to wake up to. I don't know about others but music definitely sets the mood for me. It doesn't matter if its a happy, sad, melancholic or romantic mood... music does it for me. I'm a morning person as well so the first thing I do when I wake is to head to the hi-fi and play my favourite fast and upbeat songs, get into the groove and start jumping around the house.
Right now I'm listening to classical music while cramming my brain with stuff for my final paper on Wednesday. The paper totally sucks and I hate it. I guess it's mainly because I know I'm not gonna do well for it. sigh.... But classical works... it works. Hopefully I will know and understand enough to write a proper and mature essay to support my arguments by Wednesday. Give me calculations any day... just don't give me theories and models to argue about and I'll be fine. I soo hate this subject.
I am a real numbers person. I have just realized that all my passwords are made out of different sequences of numbers. I had a friend point that out to me the other day. Imagine having different sets of numbers to remember as a passwords. How I do it I don't know but I prefer that to having words as passwords. That tells me where my passion lies I suppose. Maths... and more maths.

Well, well... another day has come ! Life is a neverending circle of waking and sleeping. :)
I have often questioned the wisdom of the theory of the circle of life. The one that believes that the existence of mankind is due to evolution. The one that says we come from apes. It's kinda degrading don't you think to be compared to an ape ? I refuse to believe that that is true. It's not an issue about ego. If you think about it, if that were true, then life is meaningless. There is no value to our existence since we are just animals. Nothing more than a dog or a cat, just that we have more brains. And what do brains matter ? Nothing ..
I choose to not believe that our existence was an accident. I refuse to think that some grub millions of years ago chose to crawl out from the mud, eventually started growing arms and legs, started walking and finally had some grey matter form in the top part of its body.
Why should we be equalled to an animal ? One would think that with such junk being fed into our minds, it's no wonder that we have more and more occurences of disturbing behaviour and violence displayed amongst us. People can just blame their roots ( because of animal ancestry ) for their own failures. We have more value and meaning in our lives than that.
Have you ever thought to yourself ' Why am I here? ' ' What is my purpose in life ?' I'm sure we have all had those thoughts. If you have not, there will come a time when you will ask yourself those questions. Well, to all who seek the answers , one thing is for sure, it ain't gonna be found in the theory of evolution.

Have you ever had the experience of staring at a word for some time and then realise you have no idea how to spell that word ? There was once I was writing an essay in school and I got stuck at the end of a sentence. The last word I wrote was the word house. I stared at it and at the same time drifted along in my thoughts searching for a way to continue my tale. Soon, I realised I didn't know how to spell the word house. I was looking at it BUT I had no clue what it meant. I didn't even know how my hands wrote the word in that order.. H-O-U-S-E.
Something similiar occured when I was in high school. I suddenly realised that my friends whom I have spent my entire school life with is a human being ! That sounds kinda stupid but really when you think about it, we do take people for granted and not realise that they too are human. When I tried explaining this finding of mine to my friends , they gave me a look that clearly said " I always knew you were a tad weird but this is it. You are nuts ! " No matter how much I tried explaining it they just didn't get it .
Anyway, it was till I watched the movie " As Good as it Gets" that I realised I wasn't the only one who felt and saw things that way.. In the movie, the gay artist was looking for a moment where his models showed their humanity before he painted them. " If you look at a person long enough , you discover their humanity " That was precisely what I meant. Isn't it amazing how we sometimes get so wrapped up in our own insecurities and hurts that we don't see the suffering of others ? Everyone hides behind a facade and it only takes a moment when all is exposed. So take time off to really look at someone you care for.. and maybe you'll see exactly just what I mean.

Since Saturday I have been thinking about what to post on my blog. However now that I have access to my computer once again, I have lost my inspiration to write. Maybe as I go along I may think of something that is worth reading and worth sharing. But for now, I shall just ramble until I remember what it was that I had on my mind 2 days ago.
I was watching John Farnham in concert yesterday night and my.. was he fabulous. For those who haven't heard of him, he is an Australian singer .. a real famous one. He did a song together with the boy band Human Nature sometime in the late nineties I think. Some of you might remember the song,
" Every time you cry,
Save up all your tears,
I will be your rainbow
When they disappear... "
Does that ring a bell ? Anyway, yesterday night he was live on telly singing in his last tour around Australia and I must say.. it was sensational ! He had the best musicians playing for him. They all did such a fantastic job. He had only two back up vocalists, a woman and a man. The woman sang alto while the man did the bass. John himself is a tenor and the three of them together sounded heavenly.. they blended so well with one another. I loved every moment of it. Now I'm looking forward to purchasing an album of all the songs he sang in his last concert.. that is if they are producing it. Somehow, I think not.

Whoops... missed a day in blogging. A beginner in the blogging community and missing a day just 2nd week into blogging.. Not off to a good start am I ?
Anyway, I watched a movie yesterday titled ' Rosencrantz and Gildernstern'. It's one of those movies where you have to concentrate listen to every word that is uttered or you will be bored to death and very lost as to where to movie is heading. The movie was a tale about 2 men.. Rosencrantz and Gildernstern who was summoned to the courts to aid their very sick and perhaps demented friend Hamlet. Yes.. Hamlet. The deranged soul was causing trouble in the courts because his mom the queen, had wed his uncle after the death of his father. No one knew for certain that he was mad or not.
Anyhow to sum it up , the movie encourages lateral thinking and makes you wonder about things like ' What's the probability of getting heads 172 times upon tossing a coin continuosly ?' ' Is every exit an entrance? ' and ' If every exit were an entrance then why should it be called an exit or an entrance at all ?' The 2 men in the tale were wondering from the very start of the movie the reason for their travel to the courts. They believed that because at every toss they had obtained heads, there must be some higher power in control of things and an end that they were heading to. In the end both the men lost their lifes because they were hung. The closing statement by Gildernstern was if all could have been avoided had they turned down the summons to court.
It was a throughly tiring and confusing show but definitely one that sets the wheels of the mind thinking. I'm probably not very good at explaining the details of the movie but I will say if you are interested in bombarding your mind with philosophical thoughts and questions then this will be your cup of tea. If you are looking for a mindless movie with simple and expected plots then steer clear of this one. It will send you to sleep in the first 10 minutes of screening.
What amazed me most about the show was how much thought the characters put into every thing that happens. So many questions were asked but many were left unanswered. Reading so much into every word and action is tiring. I'm certain some of us as we grew up had many mind boggling questions in our heads that perhaps till now have been unanswered. I guess we just have to accept the fact that the human mind does not know all nor is able to obtain logical answers for all. There are things that we just can't understand. It's kinda like a computer that doesn't have enough memory and needs upgrading . Unfortunately in our case we can't be upgraded to understand the mysteries of life. No matter how much we try to create a logical explanation for everything we will never get it right. I do think that it may not be all that wise to read so much into actions and thoughts as well. Ignorance is sometimes bliss. Questioning may cause us to lose sight of that which is obvious to all who had not given much thought to things and had taken the most logical solution out of something. We may miss the whole purpose of life just by questioning too much.

I was reading some online articles this morning and came across one written by a girl complaining about the discrimination against coloured skin. She wasn't talking about racial discrimination but her complaints were voiced against people who preferred fair skin in women. It is true that in our society (asian) most of us prefer to be fair than dark. Somehow we have been brought up to believe standing under the sun will destroy our good looks, namely our skin. The complete opposite is true in western communities where the gold, tanned look is prized. One will never find bottles of tanning lotion in our shopping centres. Even if there were, it would be right at the bottom shelf practically hidden from sight.
I won't say her arguments are not justified but the issue of skin colour preference in the light of beauty is not all that important. It is the nature of man to want something that they haven't got. I have had countless wishes as I have grown up.. wishing i had less hair and then more hair , longer legs, smaller eyes , flatter cheeks... the list is endless ! Well, as the saying goes ' the grass is always greener on the other side'
I say we don't complain about such issues. Take it in stride and accept oneself as one is. Other people are entitled to their opinions and so are we. Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder does it not ? I have come to learn to think that the grass isn't always greener on the other side.
Nicer maybe.. but not greener :) hahah..

If Monday was gloomy and grey, shouldn't Tuesday be a happy day ?
:)
Woke up all painful this morning. It must have been ages since I properly exercised. Anyway, being refreshed and awake is good. Came in early to uni and spent 3 hours saturating myself with details on metals ... history, technologies, corrosion properties and other things related to the topic. I have another 7 hours to go before hitting the sack once again to lay my head to rest. I sure need it. Don't know if 7 hours can guarantee me a distinction but I sure will try, cross my fingers and hope to not die.
But Gilmore Girls and CSI is on tonight. Two of my favourite movies... sigh... who says one makes easy choices in life ? :)

9.00 am Woke up... took 15 minutes to finally peel myself off the bed
10.00 am Went to the mall to pick up supplies to make lunch. Have some
friends coming over
11.00 am Cooking up a storm. In the menu , fried rice, beef stew, vegetable
soup and stir fried veges. ( sounds good ? ) To top it off,
dessert is Cadbury ice cream and tim tam bickies with coffee.
12.30 pm Guests arrive
1.30 pm Finished lunch. Gladly receiving compliments :)
3.30 pm Everyone decides to go for a walk round a lake to exercise all the
food off. Good idea.
3.45 pm Arrived by the lake. Everyone is rearing to go ! Warm ups done ?
Alright ! Here we go !
4.30 pm Is this walk ever gonna end ? The walk seems to go on and on..
beginning to think that doing sit ups in front of the telly was a
better idea. Whose idea was this ??
4.45 pm I'm not very briliiant. Who walks and exercises herself this much
just a day away from her finals ? I must be nuts !
Then again who invites people over for lunch when
she should be cramming for her exams ?
5.00 pm I see the car ! I see the car !
5.15 pm Thank heavens we are home. Glad to take me shoes off. That's
definitely the last time I'll see those shoes this month.
6.00 pm ahh..... delightful warm water... bubbly and perfumy...
6.30 pm Time to blog !
Now that I am done, I really should start on my books......

The weekend's over ! In another 6 hours it will be the start of another week. Then again there are those who reckon Sunday is the beginning of the week. Ever come across people who when given a set of tasks will set out to complete the one that is most stressful and difficult first ? Well, that's the sort of person I am. I save the easy and pleasant work for the later part of my life. So since Monday signifies the beginning of work (work meaning solving problems and overcoming the numerous challenges life has to offer) , I decided that there is no better way to begin my week. Sunday is the day of rest and the climax point of the entire quarter of the month.
Today was a very pleasant day. Blue skies and no wind. Yes, that is the best part of today... no wind. For the past few days the wind has been creating havoc for all women in the community resulting in what us females call 'a bad hair day'. Nothing could be done because the winds were just too strong. No matter what you did, tie it, bun it or hair gel it, one can almost see the teasing fingers of the wind pull and tug against each strand of hair until it was all tangled and out of place. Disastrous...
Well, there is not much that I have to say today. It's been a relatively uneventful day. Hopefully tomorrow may be more inspiring !

Blissful thinking, ... blissful in the thesaurus says peaceful, pleasant and it quotes the word miserable as the antonym to the word blissful. For me , it's just a proclamation that I want to place over my life and my thoughts, claiming only the positive in my life. Bizarre as this may be, I do believe that what one thinks is what one is.
The mind is the most dangerous part of the human body. From it, comes forth great ideas, briliiant remarks and sometimes the most murderous thoughts. Psychologists and psychiatrists have different modules on understanding the workings of the human mind. However, its such a complex structure that great as our minds are, we just can't comprehend it.
There is not much that I wish to say today besides the fact that positive thinking is one of the most powerful tools in a successful life. Tough as life may be, seeing it in a different light is the determining factor in our response and action towards it. However, it takes determination and choice to push away negative thoughts. Pessimism only seeks to dent our confidence and ruin our potential. So, be positive !
* These are simple truths and straightforward thoughts... yet sometimes we miss the whole picture of life just because we seek to establish ourselves as smarter and more complicated than others *

This is interesting. I have always wanted to start a blog but have not ventured to do so. Somehow, something on this beautiful Friday morning inspired me to do so. I have never been much of a computer user since I'm always out of the house and all my friends know that I'm not keen on reading forwarded mails. I fully welcome the idea of keeping in touch with friends who are abroad but secretly thought to myself, ' How much can one say before stopping the flow of mails completely ?'
Anyhow, since my departure from home to study abroad myself, I have come to the realization that me being no different from others, am spending much of my time in front of the computer mailing and chatting the hours away. It has come to a point where everyone I know has received mails from me talking just about absolutely nothing and filling them in about my latest doings. It does not matter to me if they want to know or not.. cos i just wanna mail ! So... since I was doing that, I decided, why not start blogging ?
To start things off on this first blog of mine.. i shall share my thoughts on this particular quiz that I took just minutes before. Interestingly, it concludes that I'm a Sun Siren ! It goes like this,
' You're a Sun siren: You're positive, confident, and organized, and you don't let others stand in your way. Your natural charm and magnetism make you a born leader. You can be bossy, and you're stubborn about staying in control of a situation, but only when you're convinced you're helping people. Your charisma guarantees that you won't spend many Saturday nights alone. In fact, you're used to being the center of attention wherever you go. You're great at dishing out advice to your pals- often before they ask for it! Yet you do inspire them to be the best they can be. You're tremendously loyal and generous to your guy. When you're in love, you give 110 percent, and you're rarely the one to call it quits. But you need a mate as strong as you are to be truly happy.'
I'm so glad it's positive ! It does sound very much like me. It never ceases to amuse me when a quiz comes up with a right definition or description of myself. However I do wonder, ' Are people so easily categorized into such limited categories just by answering a few questions about themselves ?' To me, people can be so different from one another. Yet, when I look at the number of categories avaliable, it does limit the variety of characters people have.
Girls, I think are more susceptible to the lure of completing a quiz to find out more about themselves. Quizzes ranging from ' Is he the right man for you?' to ' Are you eating healthily?' never fails to suck us into spending 8 minutes or more of our time choosing the answers that best describes us. I can't even keep count of the number of quizzes I have completed in my lifetime. Have you noticed that there is not one edition of a ladies or girls magazine that comes without a quiz in it ? Females are in a never-ending quest to search for a perfect relationship or a perfect self image. I would stop myself if I could but the attraction of 'trying a quiz out just to see if that's me' is just to good to pass over.
sigh....
Anyway, to those who are interested in the quiz mentioned above, here is the address for it.
